Autumn in October, the air is filled with fruits aroma. On October 26th, when it’s 95th anniversary of Ocean University of China as well as 60th anniversary ofCollege of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the acceptance of Carbon-14 accelerator mass spectrometry system and opening ceremony of Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center was held in the square in front of the chemistry and chemical engineering building.

About 60 people attended the opening ceremony, they are Wang Xiulin, a well-known alumni of OUC, the vice-chairman of Shandong People’s Political Consultative Conference, Yu Zhigang, the principal of OUC, and Wang Jianmin, the Party committee member as well as chief accountant of OUC; the heads of the Development and Planning Division, Science and Technology Department, University Assets and Lab Administration Department, the heads of College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Marine Chemistry and Engineering Technology, alumnus and student delegation of College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

The ceremony was presided by Xing Ying, the director of University Assets and Lab Administration Department.

Zhao Meixun, the director of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Marine Chemistry and Engineering Technology made an introduction about the foundation of Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center. Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center was ready to set up in 2016, and after 3 years’ development, the main hardware infrastructure of the accelerator was accepted by the university in July, 2019, and the primary facility Carbon-14 accelerator mass spectrometry system was accepted in October. He also determined that they would unite the Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center of national laboratory and try to make Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center of OUC the first-rate mass spectrometry center in the world, and become a strong platform for the construction of first-rate university and discipline of OUC.

Wang Xuchen, the head of the acceptance group and College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering read the acceptance document of Carbon-14 accelerator mass spectrometry system. The experts of the acceptance group all agreed that Carbon-14 accelerator mass spectrometry system of OUC satisfied the standards and requirements for acceptance. They also held that Carbon-14 accelerator mass spectrometry system of OUC was one of the most developed and miniatured Carbon-14 measuring systems in the world, which would give a strong impetus to the construction of first-rate university and discipline of OUC, and improve the core competence of marine science and other relating disciplines of the university.

Professor Wang Jianmin delivered a speech, and pointed out that the study of ocean and global carbon cycle is a foremost scientific issue in the world, as well as one of the research emphases of key laboratory of marine chemistry and college of chemistry. He hoped that Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center could provide not only technical support to key laboratory of marine chemistry and college of chemistry, but also perfect test condition and technical support to the study of relating fields like marine science, environmental science, earth science, atmospheric science, and archeological science, and a first-class platform for dealing with important multidisciplinary foremost scientific issues, so as to promote the cross development of marine science, discipline construction and the leaping development of our university, and what’s more to better serve the Strategy of Strong Marine Country.

After the ceremony, attendees visited Carbon-14 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center of OUC.
